Regulatory compliance

Regulatory compliance and an outsourced compliance officer

Regulated firms need someone who knows the rules, watches for changes and tells management plainly where the firm stands. We can be that function for you, or support the compliance officer you already have.

What we take on

  • The compliance function itself, outsourced to us, or support for your compliance officer.
  • The compliance policy and procedures.
  • A programme of regular checks, with findings and follow-up.
  • Reports to management and the board.
  • Anti-money laundering controls, described on our AML page.
  • Data protection under the GDPR and whistleblowing under Law 4990/2022.

Who we work with

Investment firms, banks, e-money institutions, payment institutions, alternative investment fund managers and crypto-asset service providers. With an office in Nicosia, we also work with firms in Cyprus.

Compliance and internal audit are not the same thing

Compliance works every day to keep the firm inside the rules. Internal audit comes later and checks, independently, whether the controls, compliance included, actually work. A firm needs both, and the same person should not do both. We can take on either one, and when we audit a function we do not also run it.

Who leads the work

Compliance is led by Panagiota Ch. Fitsorou, CICA, CCS, Head of Risk Management and Compliance Services.

Frequently asked questions

What does a compliance officer do?

They make sure the firm follows the laws and rules that apply to it, keep policies up to date, check that staff follow them, advise management on new rules and report problems to the board and, where required, to the supervisor.

Can the compliance function be outsourced?

In many cases, yes. Supervisors usually allow it under conditions, and the board stays responsible. We agree with you in writing what we take on and how we report.

Do you work with firms in Cyprus?

Yes. We have an office in Nicosia, at Victory Tower, Kyriakou Matsi 18.

Need a compliance officer, or a second pair of eyes?

Tell us about your firm and your supervisor. We will propose how we can help.
